Make Shrinky Dink Necklaces - Lalaloopsy Party Crafts

For my little girl’s 5th birthday party we had a Lalaloopsy Tea Party. It was lots of fun and super cute - see here for more pictures of the party.

At the party the girls had tea and sandwiches, ice cream and cupcakes. We also had games and crafts of course. One of the crafts was making these Shrinky Dink necklaces.

To make things easier for the girls (ages 4-7) I drew out a bunch of Lalaloopsy characters and pets and cut them out of the Shrinky Dinks. This way the girls could just colour and not worry about drawing them out perfectly. It was fun watching the different colouring styles of each girl at the party - some scribbled a bunch of colours and others took their time, a long time

But of course the favourite part of the making these was watching them shrink in the oven.

You can buy Shrinky Dink sheets at craft stores - it’s easiest to buy the sanded sheets that work with pencil crayons but if you can’t find the sanded ones (or if the regular sheets are a lot cheaper, like in my case there was a $8 difference) you can sand them yourself so pencil crayons will work on them too. I traced out the Lalaloopsy designs with a thin permanent black marker. Then cut them out and punched a hole. After the kids coloured them, I stuck them in a hot oven (about 350 degrees) on a cookie sheet for a few minutes - watch them, once then shrink up and lie flat you can take them out. After they cooled I put a little ring on them so they will sit better on the necklace. The girls then decorated the cording with beads and the Lalaloopsy beads they made. I just tied them in a knot in the back and voilà and beautiful handmade necklace for the girls to bring home with them.

It was a fun craft to do with a nice small group of girls.
