Glittery reindeer
Another craft from Christmas past. I’ve recently started a job outside of the house so I haven’t had the same amount of time to craft as in previous years so instead I’m sharing past crafts that I still love and still use in my current Christmas decor.
These glitter reindeer were inspired by some more expensive ornaments I saw at a department store and thought I could do something similar with dollar store finds.
Dollarama had these great packs of fine glitter in tones of colours. Since the packs of glitter are small I added 3 of the colours together which created a beautiful new colour. It looks like one colour but has a bit of depth to it.
In the home section (not the holiday section) I found these reindeer which were perfect to glitter.
To attach the glitter I painted on white glue and then poured the glitter over top. I used 2 paper plates to pour and catch the glitter. I glued and glittered in sections, it took awhile including letting it dry and touching up the spots that were missed. To fix the glitter so it doesn’t just fall off and make a glittery mess everywhere I sprayed the reindeer with hairspray. The hairspray works pretty well, I pulled them out for year 3 and the glitter still stays put.
These also make a cute gift. I gave a collection of 3 of them in different colours to friends and family one year for Christmas gifts.
This year my daughter made her little vignette making the 2 reindeer kiss. And she made a mistletoe for them from plastic vines and some pearl beads that we taped and glued together. I also backed the bookshelf with some wrapping paper to brighten the scene up.
And just to share - here’s our book shelf (from Ikea) where I have the kids Santa photos on it. I love looking back at all these photos, so happy to have them on display.
