Make a sparkly, snowy valentine’s garland
I had this great idea to make these glittery snowflakes before Christmas but I was too busy then, so I’ve decided to add some hearts to make it a Valentine craft. Around my neck of the woods in Ontario, Canada there will be snow at Valentine’s so it works perfectly for us.
What you need is a glue gun, glitter, parchment paper and string. First start by making snowflake shape (or heart shape) on a piece of parchment paper, then while the glue is still hot sprinkle with glitter, and let cool on the paper. When the glue has cooled and hardened you can shake off the extra glitter to re-use. And once it’s cooled you can peel it off the parchment and you have a cute little snowflake (or heart). Now to add to a garland take the snowflake(or heart), put it upside on the parchment and add a bit of hot glue and lay a piece of string across it. Then add hot glue over the snowflake and add more glitter so both sides are covered. Don’t move the snowflake or heart until it hardens - trust me on this one. The heat from the glue will melt the bottom layer too and it will take a bit longer to harden and it will deform if you move it. But if that happens you can fix it with more glue and glitter and let it set properly.
I added snowflakes and hearts on my garland but you can do anything you’d like. You can’t do anything too detailed or big because of limitations of the glue gun, but have fun - maybe a birthday garland, with letter or numbers.
Also another thing I learnt was not to hang over a fireplace - the hot glue gets hot and melts - oops. It didn’t leave a mess but I did lose a heart before I noticed.
