Christmas holiday review
I’m back. I had a great Christmas holiday. My husband and kids were home for 2 whole weeks, we visited family and friends and had friends visit us. It was a great break that was busy enough to not be boring, but not too busy that it was still relaxing. My little girl Isla, wanted to write a book for her class about her winter break. So yesterday we looked on my phone to find photos she wanted to include in her book. Then I added them to a file and she got on the computer and she typed out what she wanted to write. I helped with the big words and helped sound out the others - she is 5 after all. But I was surprised that she had the attention span to finish it all in a short time. So I will let Isla tell you about our winter holiday.
We went to small mall to visit Santa and there was no line - it was awesome. And there was a train driving around the mall which the kids really enjoyed.
A tradition we’ve done is take the girls to the dollar store and have them pick out gifts for the family. It’s always so cute to see what they pick out and then they came home and wrapped them all.
We saved this book for the night before the night before Christmas - cute story.
Another tradition is to go to a movie on Christmas Eve - it’s my family tradition, which started back in 1989 when we went to National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. After the movie we went to the photo booth - it’s hard to swish us all in but the photos are so cute. We did it last year also so it might be an addition to the movie tradition.
We made these awesome mint chocolate chip cookies - Santa loved them. And the girls sitting in their Christmas pjs in front of their loot.
After we opened present at our house we drove up to my husband’s family’s house. Isla tried out her new nail polish and we played games.
When we got back to our place we had another family outing to see an OHL game - the mascot Charlie Horse was a hit with the kids.
Bright and early on New Year’s Eve we went tubing with friends - so much fun, you have to try it.
After a good nap in the afternoon, we went down town on New Year’s Eve and enjoyed a kids band - Splash and Boots - and some early fireworks. We came home to warm up - the kids watched a movie, the adults eat an amazing dinner - we made Beef Wellington and it turned out awesome. Before midnight we started the dance party and everyone made it to the new year.
Missing from her book is our visit to other friends, where we enjoyed a nice relaxing afternoon and sleepover.
And we got lots of snow this weekend and the kids had a blast playing in it - and burying each other in it. And they spent the rest of the weekend under the table in a cool tent that dad made for them.
And now they are back to school and back to reality. We had a fun break and looking forward to an interesting 2014.
