Make a tower from recycled boxes
We don’t throw out any boxes, it’s a little crazy how we hoard them. And it’s not just me, the kids grab boxes from me as I try to recycle them and put them in their stash. So because we had so many boxes I needed to figure another project for them and a project that used a lot of them.
So the last day of summer vacation we built this fun tower.
First we started by taking apart our boxes so we could turn them inside out. We used a combination of cracker, cereal, pasta, soap, granola bars. The kids took the boxes apart and I glued them back together inside out with a glue gun. Once we had a lot of brown boxes (some white) we started to stack them together. Added a few toilet paper and paper towel tubes as well. When the first layer of boxes was decided I then glued them together. And then added a few more and glued. And kept stacking until we ran out of boxes. We built the tower in Lilo’s room since it was going to live there - easier then trying to carry it up the stairs after it’s built.
After it was built the girls and I started adding windows and doors and ladders - do you see Rapunzel at the top?
It was a fun easy project and I was happy to put to use some of our boxes. If you wanted to paint it, you could do that easily after the boxes are flipped - so much easier with a solid ground then to paint over the print on the box. I would paint before you glue the boxes together. We wanted a fast project and I really like the natural cardboard colour, especially since Lilo’s room is so colourful already.
