Perfect father’s day gift - Bacon Turtles
Turtles are delicious - pecans, caramel and chocolate - you can’t go wrong but you can get better. Yep, with bacon. Everything tastes better with bacon. We have 2 bacon rules in our house; 1. You can leave bacon on your plate, ever. 2. You will eat bacon even if it’s been run over by a car.
I thought these bacon turtles would be a perfect gift for my husband and any man - well anyone really.
Only 4 ingredients needed; chocolate chips, pecans, caramel squares and of course bacon.
First cook your bacon. The best way is to lay the strips out on a cookie sheet and bake at 400 for 10-15 mins (check often because it can go from not cooked to over cooked fast). If I was doing with again I might use thick cut bacon to get more bacon flavour. Drain the bacon on paper towels and let cool.
Then place 4 pecans in a cluster on a foil covered cookie sheet.
Melt caramels in a microwave until smooth and pourable. Spoon the melted caramel on top of the pecans.
Place pieces of bacon on the soft caramel.
Melt chocolate chips in a bowl in the microwave on low until smooth. Pour on top of bacon and then place in the fridge to harden.
Serve the turtles at room temperature or you’ll break you teeth on the caramel.
From the bit of research that I did on line, it seems to be that you can leave cooked bacon out a few hours without harm.
So there you go, a perfect Father’s Day gift that I’m sure your Dad will be raving about.
