Make a no sew blanket
My little girls love their blankets or giggies as they are called in our house. The name “giggie” came from Lilo as a toddler who couldn’t pronounce blanket so called them giggies and it just stuck and even when Isla started talking she called her blanket giggie too. But there’s a difference between any old blanket and their “giggies”. Lilo was still snuggling with her baby “giggies” last year - she had 3 little polar fleece blankets that she had to layer down her body to cover her all up - so I thought she needed a new blanket that fit her. For Christmas last year I made her a cozy polar fleece blanket that she can wrap around in (and then I made one for Isla a few months later for her birthday since she liked it so much)
The blanket is super easy to make - no sewing involved.
Start with 2 pieces of polar fleece - micro fleece is perfect for this as it’s lighter and super soft. For my girls I used 1.5 Meters (approx. 1 3/4 yards) of each fabric (printed on one side and solid on the other) but you might want more fabric for a longer blanket. Place the 2 pieces of fabric wrong sides together (good sides out) and trim so they are the exact same size.
Now time to cut the fringe - measure 4 inches up and cut the fringe pieces 1/2″. I didn’t worry about being perfect - I laid my measuring tape across the edge up 4″ from the edge and then used it as a guide to cut my 1/2″ fringe.
Cut the fringe all around the blanket cutting out a 4″ x 4″ square at the corner.
These little squares make perfect blankets for your mini Lalaloopsys
Now it’s time to tie the fringe together. Take a fringe from the top layer and tie with one from the bottom layer and repeat all around the blanket. For Lilo’s blanket I gave it to her not tied thinking it would be fun for us to do together (ok, really I didn’t have time to finish it but it worked out - like a craft and blanket in one - the perfect gift).
So on Christmas morning we sat under the blanket and started tying it up. For Isla’s she helped a bit too but it’s probably best for kids 6 and over.
So there you go - a super easy, cozy blanket in no time. Perfect for the chilly nights that we are still having.
Every morning Isla comes down stairs wrapped up in her “Giggie”. So make one for your loved one or yourself.
