TP Roll Monsters

With March break next week I thought I would share some fun projects that would be fun to do this the kids. A few summers ago we made these fun little monsters from toilet paper rolls.

So I’m a bit of a hoarder, not like a Buried Alive type of hoarder but I have a hard time throwing things out. Lately I have been collecting toilet paper rolls, like lots of them, so I needed to come up with a crafts to use some of them up. I’ve used them for many crafts in the past, like trees for our box town, play microphones,bunnies at Easter, and cute cats but I need something new this time. After some inspirational research on a Google image search I came up with monsters, but friendly monsters.

We started by collecting all the TP rolls we had along with painting supplies. We used acrylic paints and applied the paint with paintbrushes and Q-tips. Once they were dry we added details with a black Sharpie. And added more details like hair and arms with pipe cleaners and curling ribbon.

Isla and I had fun making them and then I thought our activity was over, I mean making them was the fun part right, no, not in Isla land – we now had to play with them (she loves make belief, serious I can’t play Barbies anymore, please no more Barbies). But I gave in and we brought them outside so I could take some pictures and Isla could tell her story of the roll people; here is one of the stories…

Mr. Blueman was all alone in the flowers.

Then he met Ms. Big Hair and they got married.

Ms. Dotty and Ms. Stripy were so happy for Mr. Bluehat and Ms. Big Hair that they danced. And they all lived happily ever after.

Adding details, eyelashes and eyebrows give them personality and their bright white eyes. These little guys have been played with a lot and now are cute decoration in our dinning room. A fun activity so use up recyclables.
