Olympic Ring flag poster
The Olympics are just around the corner and I wanted to share the fun Olympic flag poster I made for the last games with my girls.
For our Olympic Flag, I was inspired the colour wheel collage like I saw on Pinterest from Freckle Photoblog. First, I traced out 5 rings on 5 sheets of 11″ x17″ paper, using 2 different sized bowls to create the inside and outside of the rings. Next, we tore up all sorts of magazine advertisements with lots of colour, and organized all of the pieces onto a different plate for each of the ring colours: red, blue, black, yellow and green.
Once sorted, we glued the pieces onto the rings, covering small sections of the ring with glue, and the placing colour pieces on top. Using a paint brush, we spread a thin layer of glue on top, making sure all of the edges were down neatly. (A tip to make white glue easier to pour out of the bottle, is to store them upside down. I keep our glue in a container of markers, since they won’t stand upside down on their own.)
Once the rings were dry, I retraced out the rings using the same bowls – since I couldn’t see the original lines any more. Once all the rings were all cut out, I made a small cut into each one so that they could be laced together. Admittedly, this took some working out, and a lot of looking at on-line pictures, to get the layout correct! Finally, we glued them on to a large piece of white bristle board to create our flag, and taped both sides to large bamboo sticks to help it stand.
I love the texture the collage creates to the Olympic Rings, as I think it’s much more interesting then solid rings.
